We’re GESS award finalists!

We’re delighted to announce that we’re finalists in the GESS awards 2020. The Learning Village has been short-listed in the SEN and Inclusive Resource/Equipment Supplier of the Year category. The GESS awards highlight the very best educational resources, services, people and establishments – they aim to be recognised throughout the sector as ‘the accolade of excellence’.

We entered because we wanted to tell the world all about the Learning Village programme and SEN. The Learning Village is aimed at all non-native English speakers in the mainstream classroom, and is ideal for those with SEN. It:

  • delivers learning through the universal language of images
  • is tailored to the individual student, who follows their own customised pathway
  • provides a clear, organised and systematic learning environment
  • operates in a self-paced learning environment
  • proceeds in small steps from simple to complex structures
  • allows for the extensive practising of skills in different settings and channels
  • emphasises speaking and listening work, with a full phonics programme and translation back to a learner’s home language
  • includes a wealth of scaffolding resources, guiding learners through practice activities and building up to independent written work
  • is fun and popular, raising confidence and engaging disoriented learners.

‘The Learning Village has proved to be a good intervention programme for our EAL children and SEN. The children are very enthusiastic about using it, and are becoming more independent. It is clear that [they] are making progress.’
